Grammar Snufus by Karla Stover

Okay, here's the deal. When did people become "that" instead of "who?" I hear this on the radio on the TV ( and shouldn't news reporters know better )? and unless my memory is wrong, have even read it in places. Why? How hard is it to remember that people require a "who"? And here's another--myself instead of me. My boss did this all this time and it drove me crazy. Are we so afraid to  be in the spotlight that we have to say, "So-and-so and myself did such-and-so?"

The pampered diva is about to meet her match

Songbird Gloria Houghton has always needed to be the center of attention, but the spotlight has shifted. Seeking fame and a fresh start, she finds a new stage in Branson, Missouri…only to risk being replaced by a manipulative rival. If Gloria can’t be the star, who is she?

Jack-of-all-trades Nick Sherwood is just one leaf on a vast family tree that includes a restaurant chef, hotel owners, and even the headline act at a family-owned theater. He’s seen how fame can blind a person with jealousy and is more than content to stay in the background thank you very much. If only he wasn’t so fascinated--and irritated--by the newest addition to the staff.

After a disaster of a first impression and financial difficulties land Gloria in the humblest of jobs—with Nick as her boss—it might be time for her to learn to sing a new song.

Gloria swiped the mess away from her face in time to spot two dark-haired men exiting a nearby room—her destination. They elbowed past the janitor and helped her to her feet, one on each side.
While taking a moment to regain her balance, she eyed her handsome rescuers. Ah, yes. Thanks to her online research, she recognized them as members of the famous Sherwood clan, the family who was the headline act for this theater but also owned both the hotel down the hill and the cheesy tourist shop next door.
In the dim light, it was hard to tell which one was Gavin and which was Tyler. Still, the twins were even cuter in person, with black T-shirts hugging muscled chests and faded blue jeans encasing long legs.
Despite her lucky—or rather unlucky—heels, they were still taller than her.
“Are you hurt?” The brother on her right squeezed her wet elbow, reminding her of the water running down her neck, plastering her shirt against her side, and soaking into her jeans.
So much for a good first impression.
“It’s just cosmetic damage.” She bit her lip. At least she hoped the renewed throbbing in her knee would fade.
The still-silent janitor eyed the twins for a moment, then shook his head as he turned away to retrieve the fallen mop.
The twin on her left bent and picked up her purse and dripping phone. “Don’t think your phone was as lucky. But maybe you can dry it off…” He eyed her clothes as he handed her the phone and purse. “You might be more comfortable in something dry yourself.”
“True.” Except all the clothes she’d brought were back in her room at the Hilton. Who knew she should have tossed a spare outfit into her rental car that morning?
“Hey, Nick?” the twin on her right called out to the janitor. “You got an extra shirt around here?”
“I might.” Nick sighed and left the mop in the now-upright bucket. “Follow me.” He started back the direction she had come.
“I’ll be back.” She nodded at the twins and then limped along behind Nick. Hopefully he had access to a souvenir shirt from the show or the town and not something to match his baggy coveralls. Otherwise she’d have to pretend it was a costume for her new role of girl-with-the-can-do-attitude.
