Okay, here's the deal. When did people become "that" instead of "who?" I hear this on the radio on the TV ( and shouldn't news reporters know better )? and unless my memory is wrong, have even read it in places. Why? How hard is it to remember that people require a "who"? And here's another--myself instead of me. My boss did this all this time and it drove me crazy. Are we so afraid to be in the spotlight that we have to say, "So-and-so and myself did such-and-so?"

THE APPEAL OF THE COWBOY HERO
Cowboys have long been a popular hero for genre fiction. I’ve given workshops in the past on the appeal of the cowboy hero and would ask the participants to call out words that describe him. I always hears ones like: strong, capable, loyal, protective, resourceful, determined, moral, honorable, brave, trustworthy, and, of course, handsome.
Writing western romances was a natural fit for me. I’ve always loved western movies and TV shows from the time I was a kid and grew up watching reruns like Bonanza, The Big Valley, Gunsmoke, and The Rifleman. I still like westerns and wish there were more on TV. Did any of you happen to watch the new Kevin Costner show Yellowstone that aired recently? Despite a few minor complaints, I very much liked it.
Another reason writing westerns comes naturally is that I owned horses for most of my life. I’ve actually ridden in a stagecoach for three days along the original Butterfield Stage Route here in Arizona, rode a mule on a four-day trip through the Bradshaw Mountains, and covered almost every square inch of the Superstition Mountains, camping out near Indian ruins, on the edge of a precipice, and at the site of an abandoned mine. While I gave up keeping my own horses and mules a few years ago, I still get to play with them every week when I visit my son.
But back to why cowboy heroes are appealing, aside from all the reasons listed above. I think there’s a certain old-fashioned quality about him, one that gives the reader a sense of security and comfort. He’s also an escape for many readers from the type of man they usually meet. He tends to be uncomplicated, straightforward, and speaks plainly. He isn’t going to play games or send a break-up text or stand up a gal up without a darn good reason. While he’ll respect her ability to take care of herself, he’ll want to open doors for her and pay for dinner and carry her groceries inside.
He’s definitely an Alpha hero. Not the same kind of Alpha hero as a vampire or billionaire or Scottish warrior, so he may not be everyone’s taste. For me, however, it’s like my FaceBook page banner says: Curl Up With A Good Cowboy…Read!
